SPRUNG 2025
2025
Stockdale - a long time conjuror and Burke - her palette knife protégé.
A magical, immersive living exhibition where dismantling Australian folklore becomes center stage as a compelling force fueled by the dynamism of two artists in love with the mother of a bushranger. The project responds to the model of Melbourne’s Art Fair SPRING1883, which redefines art exhibitions through immersive luxury hotel experience. SPRUNG2025 presents a new version in the spirit of rogue splendour.
As recipient of the 2025 Yarra Arts Fellowship Jacqui Stockdale collaborates with emerging artist Daniel Burke to showcase a free for all, contemporary tableau vivant. Together they bring highly charged paintings and sculptures, interacting with their subjects, accompanied by sound and live performance. (Dash Hound, The Dilapidated Diva). A life size sculpture Ma, gyrates on a dead horse, four outstretched arms, echoing the divine Hindu mother, Kali Maa on a bad day. Housed in their studio building, Ma serves as a vehicle for the artists to liven up bush folklore and colonial revisionism, weaving in playful and dark surreal overtones.
