Six painted cardboard mask sculptures on a white wall, each with distinct exaggerated facial features and vibrant colors.

Next of Kin
2009

“My studio is filled with decapitated dolls from opp shops, Mexican Day of the Dead figurines and masks from my travels to Mexico and India. These beloved objects become trigger points for ideas played out equally within my paintings, photographs and paper cut-ups. I find myself endlessly rearranging and merging them together. Sometimes I do this to entertain myself, however, after a while I tend to incorporate these arrangements into my work. In this set of paintings called, Next of Kin, the six hybrid characters seem part of the one grouping yet stand entirely apart. A metaphor for humanity.”
