Don’t Change a Hair
Backwards Gallery, 2021

Curated by Helen Gory

Working with watercolour is tricky, it takes the rug from under you. I like to work directly from a model, in this case a life-size sculpture I made from a mannequin and a real hair wig, I called it, Ah Man, a hybrid of Colonial Irish and Chinese descent, a bushranger in a dress, a her/him/they. I tried to repeat the same portrait over and over, but it didn't work out like that, instead I ended up with a mob of ancestors; brothers, sisters, black sheep and throw backs.
